Mathematics Department’s Graduate Research Award for Applied Mathematics for 2017

The joint winners of the Mathematics Department’s Graduate Research Award for Applied Mathematics for 2017 are Josh Scurll and Cole Zmurchok, both IAM members. Josh Scurll has made strides in image interpretation problems in cell biology, and is also at the forefront of designing an innovative strategy to personalize targeted cancer therapies, and Cole Zmurchok’s research includes an ingenious finding in the application area of cell biology that mechanical tension on cells can affect their biochemistry.
