Helical symmetry refers to the invariance of a physical system under simultaneous translation and rotation.
Helical flows emerge in a range of natural and experimental settings. Reductions of partial differential equation systems under helical symmetry can yield rich additional mathematical structure. We will discuss additional conserved quantities that arise for helically symmetric viscous and inviscid fluid flows, as well as exact helically invariant solutions describing fluid and plasma dynamics.
