Old Dog: The Bingham fluid model

Abstract: The Bingham fluid model was proposed by E.C. Bingham about 100 years ago. I will present a few case studies from recent research directions, to show you there is still life in the old dog.

Bio: Ian Frigaard is presently a Professor in the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics at the University of British Columbia. Previously, he completed a B.Sc at Cardiff University, and an M.Sc and D.Phil at the University of Oxford followed by a postdoc at Johannes Kepler Universität, and several years as a research scientist at Schlumberger Oilfield Services. In 2011 he was the recipient of the CAIMS-Mprime Industrial Mathematics Prize in recognition of his exceptional research in industrial mathematics.
