Julia Workshop Series 2023

September 20, 2023 6:00 pm LSK 306
UPDATE: The Julia workshop is full, and registration has been closed.

The IAM and PIMS are sponsoring a three-part workshop on the Julia programming language that will be held over three Wednesdays, from 6 pm to 9 pm.

Dates: Sept 20, Sept 27, and Oct. 4.
Location: IAM Lounge (LSK 306)
Register here by Monday, Sept. 18.

The following topics will be covered:

September 20: Foundations
  • installation
  • syntax
  • type system
September 27: Performance
  • faster code
  • types revisited
October 4: Structure
  • large programs
  • modules
  • packages
The workshop sessions will be led by IAM alum Mia Kramer (MSc ’22, UBC CS), currently a scientific software developer at 1QBit.

Although no previous experience with Julia is required, it’s expected that attendees will have experience with another programming language, such as Python or Matlab. Because the workshop sessions are tightly integrated, we ask that all workshop participants commit to attending all three sessions. Small assignments will be given after each session, and there will be an opportunity to form interests groups to continue learning and collaborating on more specialized topics.

This workshop has been made possible by generous financial support from the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS) .
