Third Seminar Retreat 2007
|
|
The Third IAM Seminar Retreat 2007 took place in brave defiance of any superstitions
from 9 am to 5:30 pm on Friday, April 13th, and was organised by Prof. Dan Coombs
(IAM Faculty, Dept. of Mathematics), Prof. Michael Ward
(IAM Director, Dept. of Mathematics) and Dr. Marek Labecki (IAM Research/IT Manager).
As in the past two years, we used the hospitable facilities of the beautiful
Minnekhada Lodge,
located in the Minnekhada Regional Park.
We had almost 40 participants and a total of 16 talks covering a variety of topics in Applied Mathematics
(see the Retreat Schedule).
All sessions went very smoothly, and most speakers kept their talks perfectly within the
alloted time limit, making Dan Coombs' famous time-enforcing gun largely unemployed throughout the day.
During the lunch break, despite a somewhat uncooperative weather, most of us took
a walk around Minnekhada Park,
including a visit to its highest point, the High Knoll.
See the Retreat Schedule and
Retreat Pictures for more on this great event.
