Until January 2007, the IAM used to be part of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, and since then its has been a unit within the College for Interdisciplinary Studies. The Institute maintains close ties with various UBC departments, particularly Mathematics, as well as with the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS) and the Mathematics of Information Technology and Complex Systems (MITACS).
