Residual Velocities in Steady Free Boundary Problems of Vector Laplacian Type

Free boundary problems (FBPs) are boundary value problems with a moving boundary. They have wide applications in fluid flow, phase change models and other fields. We provide a useful analytical technique of the well-posedness for steady state FBPs. Moreover, the analysis gives insight into choosing residual velocities with better numerical properties when we use a certain iterative tracking method to locate the steady interface. The advantages are demonstrated in a numerical example at the end.
